25 Fun Ways to Reduce Stress

I think it’s safe to say most of us are well acquainted with stress AKA The Silent Killer.  The shitty part is that most of us do not know how to properly cope with it.

I dedicate this blog post to my spiritual running buddy, Jay, who recently asked me how to deal with this stealthy assassin. Now you can deal with stress in a fun way. Have at it.

  • In memory of Joan Rivers lets reflect on her advice on life. The comedian suggested to find a way to make the worst life situations funny. Sounds like the secret to life to me ;).
  • Prioritize. Make a list of what is making you pull your head out and shift your focus to the top three things on that list.
  • Make a funny face. Life is not that serious.
  • Realize you are choosing stress and think of other states you can be in other than stress. Example: excitement, exhilaration, grateful, relaxed, etc.
  • Write an inspirational letter- to yourself!
  • Become your own fortuneteller. Look 10 years down the road; will any of these stressful situations really matter? Will you even remember them?
  • Post a funny joke as your Facebook status.
  • Make a list of things that make you happy. Engage in one of those things daily.
  • Answer any question directed to you Charade style.
  • Tell a stranger how wonderful he/she is.
  • Listen to classical music, it’s been said that it helps lower stress levels.
  • Gather the besties and exchange your most embarrassing moments. No better way to bust through stress than with laughter.
  • Coordinate a Flash Mob.
  • Breathe in the good sh*t, breathe out the bullsh*t. Breathing deeply connects you to a higher vibration where magic exists.
  • When in doubt, have a slumber party.
  • Take a walk down memory lane. Dust off that old Hungry Hungry Hippos and get ready to kick some a**. Or gather your most favorite friends for a good ol game of hide n’ seek.
  • Drop down and give me 20. Exercise is just one of those cure-all things.
  • Knit me a sweater. Studies have shown that knitting instantly reduces stress. Don’t know how to knit? YouTube it!
  • Try Progressive Muscle Relaxation. It releases tension. You do it by relaxing separate muscle groups one by one.
  • Put your dancing shoes on and get ready to shake that booty. Instant stress reliever.
  • Do a random act of kindness and do not tell a soul about it.
  • Read your favorite book in a warm eucalyptus Epsom salt bath. My favorite!
  • Cuddle up and drink a cup of black tea. Drinking black tea regularly has been reported to lower the stress hormone cortisol after stressful situations.
  • Be optimistic.
  • Practice spirituality. Do yoga, meditate or say my favorite prayer: The Serenity Prayer:
