Get to the Root of Your Negative Thinking

Most of us have heard that it’s important to think positive and let go of all the things that are no longer serving you, right?  But how are you supposed to do this?  You can’t just tell yourself that going forward you are only going to start thinking positive and it just magically happens.

It is true that positive thinking alone isn’t going to make your problems disappear and put you into an immediate state of bliss.  The reality of all of this is that it is going to require a lot of persistency and moment-to-moment work on your part to get to that promised happiness.

A lot of times we create our own war zone in our minds without even realizing it.  See, throughout our lives we subconsciously fall into certain beliefs.  We create an idea of who we are and the role that we play in the world.  Then we live suppressed by the boundaries of that idea and that is how we get stuck.

Many of our self-limiting beliefs or negative thoughts come from what we accept as the truth.  What you are accepting as facts about yourself and the world could just be an opinion that you began to accept as being your truth.

Perhaps when you were younger your parents said you would never amount to anything in life.  As you got older, you heard that so much that you started thinking that you would not amount to anything.  Or maybe you decided to open a business but it did not work out.  You then concluded that you were just not business savvy and figured you were meant to just work for someone else for the rest of your life.

Whatever the self-limiting belief is, ask yourself, “Is this really the truth?”  Seriously, we give in to these pessimistic beliefs and we give them so much power and credibility that they begin to run our lives.  This stops us from thriving and living to our full potential.  These negative thoughts could be minor or major, regardless of size, they hold us back.

Whenever you have a self-limiting belief, ask yourself, “Is this really true?”  “Is this scientifically proven?” “Who says I have to live by this belief?” When you begin to question these beliefs and dig a little deeper you find that there is no credibility to it.  You will also find that the more you question its validity, the more the self-limiting belief subsides and you break free from what has been holding you back for a long time.

Telling yourself to stop thinking negative and to just think positive thoughts can be detrimental because you are just dismissing a part of you truly believe to be true and you are trying to replace it with another thought that your brain, at this point,  cannot yet accept as real.  It’s like sweeping dirt under the rug.  The dirt is still there even though it is “hidden.”

Growing as a person is in every moment and in every thought.  You have to persistently question those thoughts that bring you down as they appear.  Every time you question them, readjust that thought so that it works for you and not against you.  So a thought that once was, “I am a failure” for example, after questioning it, replace it with, “I am successful.”  Begin to form a healthier habit and you will start feeding your mind nourishing thoughts.

Now, lets be realistic.  It is going to take some time to diminish the credibility of the negative thought so be patient with yourself. Stay consistent and that crazy war of thoughts in your mind that once drove you crazy will bring you peace.

Take ACTION NOW and tell me what crazy thoughts have been bothering you and how you will begin to deal with them.  Do you have your own healthy method of dealing with self-limiting beliefs?  Tell me in the comments below!
