Congratulations to SaRah, Brenda B., Cindy A. for winning last weeks’s all natural skincare products giveaway! These are women with some powerful goals.

She was riding on the Subway tears rolling down her face. With her bank account depleting by the moment, she decided to quit on her dreams.

“This is it, I’m done,” she said to herself.  In the past few months she had kept putting herself out there but kept getting “no’s” from every direction.

Her new plan was to play it safe, quit acting and re-train as a lawyer. Little did she know that 45 minutes later, she would get a call that would change her life forever.

In the call, Uzo Aduba was told she landed the role as Suzanne, aka “Crazy Eyes” in the addicting show, Orange Is the New Black. Three years and two Emmy’s later, Uzo beat out Beyonce in role for NBC’s The Wiz.

To think that she was about to give up.

Isn’t it crazy that almost everyone with big bold dreams has felt like giving up at one point?

Then there is the whole, “maybe all this failure is a sign from the Universe” thing.

Uzo describes in this interview what had happened moments before making the decision to call it quits on her acting career.

She had been 20 minutes late to an audition due to poor directions and even though she killed it, she thought to herself afterwards,

“…you are not going to get it, because you were 20 minutes late, and this is God’s universe telling you, this is not for you, and you need to stop trying to take something that is not yours.”

A million things are going to try to deter us from what we really want.

We are going to be tested, time and time again.

Our minds might turn their backs on us.

We might end up putting our entire life on the line.

Almost as if the Universe were asking:

“How bad do you really want this!?”

Here’s the thing: it’s not going to be easy and it’s not supposed to be easy.

Once we accept that, we begin to work with the journey not against it.

When we come to terms that we will be tested, the only way we’ll actually fail the test is if we give up completely.

Anything worth having is worth fighting for.

The road to your dreams is tough and it can seem scary but you will come out the other side transformed if you stick to it.

There are a gazillion reasons why you should give up, but here are a list of strong reasons not to:

Success could be around the corner

Take Uzo, if anyone on that subway would have told her that success was 45 minutes away, she probably would’ve gotten off the subway at the next stop to get away from the crazy subway creep.

Success can be closer than you think but you won’t know unless you stick around to find out.

If you’re feeling like throwing in the towel, remind yourself of why you started your work in the first place.

If you do a good job at that, you will come to terms that the triumph is in the journey. It’s about doing something you love, for the sake of love.

You will regret it on your deathbed

In her book, Top Five Regrets of the Dying, Bronnie Ware talks about… well you guessed it- the top 5 regrets of the dying.

None of us want to think about our deathbed.

Gulp.

But you can see your path to you dreams from a fresh set of eyes once you know that the most common regret of the dying is:

I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.

“When people realize that their life is almost over and look back clearly on it, it is easy to see how many dreams have gone unfulfilled. Most people had not honored even a half of their dreams and had to die knowing that it was due to choices they had made, or not made.”

In case you missed it, this is the most common regret of the dying.

That’s a tough pill to swallow.

You gotta live a life on your own terms, and when it comes to dreams, leave no stone unturned.

Before going through with the deed, really think about how you are going to feel. Chances are that you are not going to feel any better.

“I feel so much better now that I gave up on my dreams!”

Said no one. Ever.

In the end, like the real end, the end of life as you know it, all that will matter is how you chose to live your life.

Following your dreams may not be easy but dying with regrets of not following them sounds a whole lot harder.

All I know is that when your heart says you have to do something, you have to do it.

Your work needs to be expressed

Out of all the people in the  world you are the only person who can express things the way that you do.

It may feel that your work is already being expressed by someone else and it may feel that it’s being expressed better than you can ever imagine doing.

You may not be able to do it the way others can but they can’t express their work the way that you can.

The Universe needs you to live out your dreams because,

“If the Universe didn’t need you, you wouldn’t be here.”

It’s that simple.

There are people who need what you bring to this world- in whatever form that maybe, and they need it in only the way you can deliver it.

Quitting would be a huge disservice not only to yourself but to the people who need what only you can give.

Don’t let moments of weakness and failure define you.

Those negative thoughts are not who you are.

That failure that you experienced last time, is not who you are.

The haters trying to stop you, cannot define who you are.

You’re a lovely being who is here to serve this world- that’s who you are.

And in case you didn’t notice in the story above, even Beyonce, the Queen of R&B, still fails and gets rejected.

And that doesn’t stop her from being awesome.

If you feel it in your heart that you have something to give the world, don’t you quit. Keep moving forward. Put in the work, step into your divine purpose daily, pray for guidance, do whatever you have to do, but for all that is holy DO NOT QUIT.

If you keep moving forward, past the fear, past the failure, and you will make it.

Just do not quit.

xo,

Sol
